Michael’s love of cooking began in the beautiful farming community of Ladner BC, where he graduated from high school with scholarships which then lead him to pacific institute of culinary arts in Vancouver. After achieving his red seal, Michael spent time at both Fairmont & Rosewood hotels and finally at the Westin Whistler, where he took the role of Restaurant Chef. More recently, Michael was the Head Chef of Catering and events operations at the Sea to Sky Gondola, and consulting chef for House of Lager.

What impact do you hope to make through your work?

As a chef, I aim to create meals for children as a key part of their daily nutrition. I hope to instill a sense of care, consistency, and quality in every meal served.

If you could implement one bold climate solution overnight, what would it be?

I’d create a zero-waste operation where all food services, especially in schools, use reusable containers and compost all organic waste.

And now for some more serious questions... If you were a climate superhero, what would your superpower be?

Obviously Captain Planet… I’d have the power to instantly eliminate food waste and transform every leftover scrap into fresh meals or recycle into compost for use at local farms.

What’s your favorite way to spend a weekend or day off?

Spending quality time skiing and biking with my kids!
